You need to clear the entrance test conducted by UPSC to become an IPS Officer. There will be prelims and mains exam. Graduation in any stream is the educational qualification required. Your age must be less than 30 years. Detailed information can be collected from UPSC portal.

To become an IPS officer you have to appear in the UPSC Civil services Exams.
If you are a Graduate, than you can apply for this exams. Graduates in any discipline can apply Age should be between 21 and 30 years OBC candidates can apply till 33 years SC/ST candidates can apply till 35 years Attempts- 4 for General candidates 7 for the OBC candidates No Restrictions for the SC/ST candidates This exam is conducted in three stages- Prelims, Mains and Interview. Next Prelims exams would be held on 26th May 2013 |

You can become officer of Indian Police Service by appearing for a entrance exam. The name of entrance exam is called Civil Service Examination. If you cleared the entrance exam then you will receive further training after which you will become IPS officer.
The requirement to appear for the entrance exam are academic as well physical. It is important that your body is fit to take the burden of daily job responsibility of a IPS officer. The IPS officer is involved in VIP security, law and order, controlling mob during riots as well taking part in the anti terror operations. These are some of the responsibilities of IPS officer. The IPS officers are also selected for various other agencies such as: R&AW IB NIA The Civil Service Examination is conducted in 3 stages. First is preliminary exam in which you will write two written tests. If passed you will be called for Main examination that contains 9 writtent tests. The exam will be concluded with personal interview. Eligibility 1. It is open to any candidate of Indian origin. 2. Only candidates with minimum qualification of graduation are allowed to appear. 3. There is no percentage criteria. 4. The age limit is 21 (minimum) and 30 (maximum). 5. Three years relaxation in maximum age for OBC. 6. Five years relaxation is given to SC/ST. |

After passing 12th standard if you have interest to become IPS officer in future then you need to complete Graduation degree course in any stream. IPS: Indian Police Service After completing Graduation degree course, you need to appear in Civil Service Examination conducted by UPSC for recruitment to various civil services of the Government of India like IPS/IAS/IFS etc.. BASIC ELIGIBILITY for UPSC Civil Service Exam: Must have graduation degree in any discipline. Must be an Indian Citizen. Both Male & Female are eligible to apply for this Exam. To become an IPS(Indian Police Service) officer one has to get through the Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC every year.
The eligible candidate must be an Indian national having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate with good Physical Fitness. The candidate aspiring for IPS should have minimum prescribed Physical Requirement such as:- HEIGHT:- General/OBC Male should be 165cm and Female 150cm while SC/ST Male should be 160cm and Female 145cm. CHEST - The Male candidate should be 84cm while Female 79cm and expandable to 5cm in both the cases.
