Hey,
First of all you have to love the subject. Try to understand a chapter from the basic. Do some problems from the chapter to understand what kind of question come from that chapter & how much question come.
Then try to make the chapter understandable on your own way. Make notes. And keep in touch with the chapter with a regular interval so that you dont forget them.
Try to apply the formula ti solve problem by your own way.
Make short cuts by own , use different books.
Like M.L.Khanna, Arihant...Sharma etc.
Take a good teacher who is understandable to you.
You can also ask question to me..

Cool Re: How to improve Maths for competitive exams?

Hey friend,

First of all do not be a stranger to the subject. Take out the book R.S agrawal ( Quantitaive aptitude) and first try to understand the formula. Then go chapter by chapter and try to work out the solved examples. Then try to redo them and see how good you are. then go in for the exercise problems.

Remember !

Practice maketh perfect. So keep practicing and you can win the exams.

well the approach to a strong mathematical ability depends on which exam you are

targeting. For exams like IIT you need to have a slow and steady approach

not giving up kind of attitude is required here.. this doesn't mean that you need to stick to

a tough question for whole day. Rather you need to try harder to understand the

concepts with step by step learning, keep learning concepts in small parts then

try to integrate them for solving bigger problems .. also remember that you wont be able

to solve questions easily or at one go... leave a tough problem and return days later with

fresh attitude to solve it,In fact There is no harm in learning concepts from examples, trying

doing them 3-4 times by yourself. That way they will get into your memory.

For modern Aptitude maths (PO MBA placements etc.) you need to revise your 10th standard basics .. speed with

accuracy is the key here. This is simple: keep solving as much as you can in limited time

with accuracy.

Finally Books you refer and Teachers have a very very important role to play

they can make or break your interest ;so follow good books with good teachers

pay attention and don't get disheartened , people find maths tough there is nothing

strange in it, you just have to work properly and smartly.

The only way to improve is to solve as many questions as possible. You need to make you try solve different types of problems. You must start from the simplest problems and then go on to the difficult types. You should make it a point to solve the previous year papers. You could purchase books for reference purpose.

Firstly I want to tell you that don't think that maths is hard.Nothing is hard.
Generally in competetive exam maths question is coming from 6th to 10th standard.
So practice with books of these classes. And if it is posibble than try to give tuition to student of 6th to 8th class by which you revice yourself in maths basic.Because I think by teaches anyone you learn more. And practice with R.S.Agrawal.All the best.

hi friend,

Mathemetics is very important subject. Dont worry if you are poor in mathemetics.

you can improve your mathemtic skills.

first you show the interest on the subject without interest means it is difficult to learn

second try to understand the problem clearly.

If you are not understand try to ask teachers or friends untill you understand

do more times on same problem.

You can study S.CHAND book. In this book they will give lot of problems

you cannot read maths you have to solve maths

Practice more maths problems, particularly those from past-year exams. Also time yourself during each practice session,so that you will get used to working under time constraints in the exam. You need to be consistent and disciplined in your practice, otherwise you cannot get the good grades you are aiming for.

In many of the competitive exams, there is no subject called Mathematics, instead there is a subject called Numerical Ability or Quantitative Aptitude.

From this area, many of the questions are being asked.

Some of the important topics in this subject are

Number Series
Percentages
Simplifications
Profit and Loss
Time and Distance
Time and work
Mensuration
Simple Interest and Compound Interest
Partnership etc.

To get good score in this area is by having strong practice.

In order to solve many of the questions from the above mentioned topics, you need some formulas.

There are some formulas through which you can easily solve the problems.

Try to purchase the books for CAT preparation so that you will get simplified solutions for many of the aptitude problems.

In addition, you can also purchase and practice questions from R.S.Agarwal book which is good for self learners.

Make a note of all the formulas and study them everyday so that you will never forget them and in addition you will easily come to know of what formula to be applied to solve a particular question in quick time.

Try to be good enough in Prime Numbers, Squares and Cubes for upto 50 numbers so that you can reduce calculation part.

Regular practice is required on this subject for minimum 2-3 hours.

Get the model question papers for the respective competitive exam that you want to apply and practice these questions.

Attempt mock tests and analyze your performance from time to time.

Generally this area in the competitive exam will consume much time to solve. But your preparation should be in such a way that you can solve the questions from this area in quick time.

Then only you can score good marks in the competitive exam.

Wish you all the best.
