Yes prelims is common for everybody from all the streams of their graduation it is very easy with multiple choice question if you are aware then I can say it will be like EAMCET .

This is of two papers and the syllabus is common to all the candidates registered. Now with this new pattern there is no tension to select optional at the first stage itself.

You have to select 2 subjects as optional in mains examination for IAS(Civil Services) as per latest syllabus

the subjects should be selected which are listed from the prescribed 25 optional subjects

The list of the optional subjects will be available in the following link which I'm going to give you now

http://www.upsc.gov.in/general/civil... (Preliminary)

yes you have to mention the optional subjects which you want to select. The examination procedure is a bit complex but you will enjoy the whole if you are really determined with the goal.

The examination is conducted in three stage pattern
->CSAT
->Mains
->Interview

This whole process will take nearly 1 to 1 and half year.
you have to be fully concentrated in the preparation time then only you will be able to clear the hurdles successfully.

Yeah mathematics is really a Intelligent choice If I'm in your place then I would have taken Psychology or Public Administration.

This is all about your questions

all the best for your preparation.
