i am expecting around 1500 rank in wbjee. i want to study computer scince. however if the rank is around 1200 i may get a fair possibilty of aiming at IIEST shibpur for the it department. can u guys tell what are the differences in course content in CSE and IT? in dat case what is the good choice? IEM-CSE or IIEST,Shibpur-IT? drop in soon.

Best Engineering colleges in West Bengal:

These were the only engineering colleges in WB until 1996. And the ranking is actually OK.

With passage of time HIT (Haldia) has made a brand. It was established when there were only 7 engineering colleges in WB. Starting from a modest journey, it has made its own brand which is only likely to be stronger in the years to come. When all these mushrooming colleges vie for which IIT their students have gone, HIT folllows the footprint of JU and makes its presence felt as alumni take position in IIT/IIM as faculty. And it's not only IIT/IIM, alumni hold faculty position in some of the prestigious universities in US (surely I'll give names!)...Duke, Penn state, University of Nebraska (Omaha).

The major reason why HIT will only shine because like traditional engineering colleges like JU, Shibpore BE College, it gives importance to the mother engineering subject unlike these new generation engineering colleges who set up college in a room with one dozen computers and start offering B.Tech in CS, IT, ETC.

I do not know how many of these mushroom colleges have heard about research grant from DST/AICTE and industries which HIT has enjoyed over the years.

One thing people need to remember, doing a B.Tech in IT/CS from these engineering colleges may fetch you a job however you will never rise in the company hierarchy since companies see institution brand value and this increases as you get your degree from old colleges.
