ELIGIBILITY Nationality A candidate must be either: (a) A citizen of India, or (b) a subject of Nepal, or (c) a subject of Bhutan, or (d) a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before 1st January, 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India. (e) a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Srilanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issued by the Government of India. Age Limits A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, in the year of examination. The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable in the follwing cases: Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe: upto a maximum of five years. Other Backward Classes: upto a maximum of three years. State of Jammu & Kashmir (Domiciled during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to 31st December, 1989): upto a maximum of five years. Defence Services personnel : upto a maximum of five years Educational Qualifications The candidate must hold a degree of any of Universities incorporated by an Act of the Central or State Legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University Under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification. Number of attempts The maximum number of attempts restriction is effective from the examination held in 1984. In case other eligibility conditions apply: General candidates: four attempts. Union Public Service Commission(UPSC) conducts various examinations for various Central Govt. Dept. such as NDA/CDS/Civil Servise Exam/SCRA etc.
Required Eligibility Criteria to appear For NDA - National Defence Academy conducted twice every year as NDA-I and NDA-II for entry in to Indian Army, Navy and Air Force wing. The eligible candidate must be an Indian unmarried male having either appear for the final 12th exam or pass in any stream from a recognised Board within the age of 156.5 to 19 years with good Physical Fitness. For CDS - Combined Defence Service conducted two times a year as CDS-I and CDS-II for entry in to Indian Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy and Officer's Training Academy. The eligible candidate must be an unmarried Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 19 to 25 years with good Physical and Mental health. For Civil Service Exam conducted once every year to join IAS/IPS/IRS/IFS etc. The eligible candidate must be an Indian National having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate. you need to pass your graduation in any dicipline.your age shall be from 21-30 years...you can also apply for UPSC in final year but you need to present your graduation degree at time of interview |

Friend,your query is in complete as you have not mentioned the name of the UPSC exam for which you want the eligibility criteria . Some of the examinations are based on 10+2 qualification while most of the UPSC exams are based on bachelor's degree. 10+2 based examinations: 1.NDA/NA exam: >>Age limit is 16.5-19 years 2.SCRA exam: >>Age limit is 17-21 years. All these exams have different educational qualifications and age criteria. Exams conducted for candidates who have just passed class 12th are: >> NDA exams- Maximum age to apply is 19 years. What does this statement actually mean? I am born on 21st april 1984. But since the forms are available in the month of Feb I will be under 30 while filling the form but the exams are held in May and i will be 31 when attending the prelims. so can i attend or i cant? Please advise. |

I come under open category from my birth but after marriage as per my husbands caste I come under SC category. will I be able to appear as an SC candidate and get age relaxation as now i belong to SC caste. please reply as i am really keen to appear for UPSC examination. I am a graduate. |
