As you are aware the pattern of the prelims has been changed from this year. You need to solve questions in the area of aptitude related questions and general knowledge. You can use the books for various banking and mba entrance exams. Also regular reading of newspapers is a must. You must be very systematic to clear this exam.

IAS,IPS,IFS and like these 23 services are regarded as the most prestigious jobs in India

for all these services we have a common entrance exam that is CSE(Civil Service Examination)

this exam is conducted by UPSC

The material for this exam is differentiated as the pattern and levels of the examination

In this CSE the exam is conducted in 3 stage pattern

->prelims (Now CSAT)

->Mains

->Personal Interview

for each and every stage we should have different strategy to follow

for prelims we should practice many types of multiple choice questions from different books which are of this format

->the books with topic name

->synopsis

->multiple choice questions

and all

for mains the strategy of selecting books should be in this format

->topic name

->its history

->main points in which we have to concentrate

->and the conclusion of topics

Going and buying the books personally is very good in my opinion that too exhibition type is preferable so that you will get time to select the books to achieve your goal

and one more thing you don't forget that is some type of fonts can create interest and increase concentration and some type of fonts make you dumb and make you feel bore

so be careful while selecting books

this is all about the selection of books

Before starting studying, go through the examination format of IAS/IPS

There is a preliminary exam and a Main exam.
For Preliminary exam, there are various books available for each subject in market.
