Re: Which subjects can I opt for IAS Exam being an IT student?
IAS means Indian Administrative Service which plays a critical role in governance. The exam to recruit IAS officers is called the Civil Service Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission.
IAS plays important role in governance of the states. There are various posts in the IAS and each post comes with different responsibility. The role of IAS officer include drafting the policy for the government. Then IAS is also responsible for implementing the policy. IAS officer has to consistently travel to places where policy is being implemented to ensure that work is being done smoothly. There is added responsibility of ensuring that there is no irregularity in the funds provided for the implementation of the policy. Now coming to the question you asked. In the Main Examination the candidate is required to choose 2 subjects for the Paper 6,7,8 and 9. Now there is a list of optional subjects out of which you can pick any two subjects regardless of your academic background. It does not matter whether you have done B.Tech or B.A., you can pick any subject from the list of optional subjects. Therefore my recommendation is that pick the subjects which are easy for you. There is no point in choosing subject like Mechanical Engineering which would be extremely difficult for you. Check the list properly and see which 2 subjects you find comfortable. I will write down the list of subjects at the end of the answer. Eligibility 1. A graduation degree in any stream from a recognized college. 2. Age limit is 21 to 30 years. 3. For OBC age limit is 21 to 33 years. 4. For SC/ST - 21 to 35 years. Number of Attempts 1. General - Four 2. OBC - Seven 3. SC/ST - No Limit Exam Pattern There are two stages of Civil Service Examination. 1) Preliminary Exam 2) Main Exam There are total of 9 papers in the Main Examination. You need to choose 2 subjects out of the list below for the paper 6 to 9. Agriculture Management Animal Husbandry & Vetinary Science Mathematics Anthropology Mechanical Engineering Botany Medical Science Chemistry Philosophy Civil Engineering Physics Commerce & Accountancy Political Science & International Relations Economics Psychology Geography Sociology Geology Statistics Indian History Zoology |

Hello,
IAS(Indian Administrative Service) conducted by UPSC every years. This is the toughest exam in India. This exam has two parts-Preliminary and Mains You must have to qualify in preliminary for getting into mains. In the mains of IAS exam you have to choose an optional subject. As you are from science background you can select physics or chemistry. |
