is there minimum pass percentage for degree to appear for NET exam? I completed BCom in 4 yrs with 49 %, did MBA in 2 yrs with 68%. Am I eligible to appear for NET? The UGC site does not seem to give eligibility criteria in detail.

Yes you are eligible for the exam as you have completed your masters. The minimum marks required at the masters level is 55%. You need to select the subject based on area of specialisation during MBA. You will not be permitted to select any other subject. The next exam is scheduled for December. The applications for the same should be available from September.

eligibility criteria for NET

M.Sc or equivalent degree , with minimum 55% marks for General and OBC candidates
and 50% for SC/ST candidates, Physically and Visually Handicapped candidates and Ph.D.

A candidate can also apply for the Test under RA (Result Awaited) category, if he/she is appearing or has appeared in his/her final year (III/IV Semester where Semester system is there) of M.Sc. or equivalent degree examination . Such candidates will have to submit the attestation format (given at the reverse of the application form) duly certified by the Head of the Deptt./Institute over his/her signature and rubber stamp (with address and name) from where the candidate is appearing or has appeared in the final year M.SC or equivalent degree examination.
However, such candidates shall be admitted to the Test provisionally. They shall only be considered eligible for JRF-(NET)/LS-(NET), if they are able to produce the proof of having passed the Master’s Degree examination in the relevant or related subject with the requisite percentage of marks and within the stipulated time frame.
The Master’s degree can be either in Humanities, Social Science, Computer science, Electronic Science etc.

i know that at present i am not eligible for any teaching post such as Asst.professor.
because my percentage is below 55%
know after completing my PhD.can i do M.A in Sociology ???

After Masters degree , you are eligible for NET exam but your degree must be from UGC approved university.

Those candidate have completd masters degree from recogniged university are eligible for NET exam.

For general and OBC candidate must be hold 55%above in masters degree. SC/ST candidate must be hold 50% above in masters degree.

Part time course are not eligible for NET exam.

For Junior research fellowship course your age must be in between 19 to 28 years.

For lectureship ,There is no upper age limit but the Minimum age is 19 years.

NET exam is conduct because of govt college lecturer and PHD entrance.

Yes you are eligible as per you passing percentage.

The passing percentage of Bachelor course doesn't matter.
However The candidate must have passed the master's degree with a minimum of 55% without any rounding off which is 50% without rounding off for the Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Physically Handicapped (PH)/Visually Handicapped (VH) category candidates.

There is also age criteria which you must satisfy.
For lectureship eligibility there is no upper age limit

But for Junior Research Fellowship the age of the candidate must not be more than 28 years. A relaxation of 5 years in the upper age limit is provided for Scheduled Caste (SC)/Scheduled Tribe (ST)/Physically Handicapped (PH)/Visually Handicapped (VH) and women candidates
