CTET Eligibility Criteria
CTET stands for central teacher’s eligibility test. It is a basic eligibility exam for those who want to pursue their career as a teacher in any of the government and public schools. For such candidates, it is a compulsory test. The test is conducted by Central government of India. This test was introduced by the government in the year 2011 to improve the standards of teaching. Teachers who are already working should clear this test within two years. Graduates in all fields like B.A, B.Sc, B.Com, etc are eligible to write the test. B.Ed candidates should also pass this test. The minimum pass marks required is 60%.
Eligibility Criteria for CTET
The basic eligibility criterion is different for upper primary and lower primary teaching.
Minimum Qualifications for Classes I-V (Lower Primary)
Candidates should posses any of the following educational qualification
- Higher secondary with a pass percentage of 50% and a 2 year course in Diploma in Elementary Education (passed or appearing in final year exam)
- Higher secondary with a pass percentage of 45% and a 2 year course in Diploma in Elementary Education (passed or appearing in final year exam) in accordance with NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations 2002
- Higher secondary with a pass percentage of 50% and a 4 year course in Bachelor of Elementary Education (passed or appearing in final year exam)
- Higher secondary with a pass percentage of 50% and a 2 year course in Diploma in Education (passed or appearing in final year exam)
- A relaxation of 5% will be given to physically disabled candidates and for those who belong to the backward communities (SC/ ST).
Minimum Qualifications for Classes VI-VIII (Upper Primary)
The minimum qualification for the exam for candidates applying for classes VI –VIII is listed below.
- B.A./B.Sc/B.Com and a 2 year course in Diploma in Elementary Education (passed or appearing in final year exam)
- Higher secondary with a pass percentage of 50% and a 4 year course in Bachelor of Elementary Education (passed or appearing in final year exam)
- B.A./B.Sc/B.Com with at least 50% marks and a 1 year course in Bachelor in Education (passed or appearing in final year exam)
- B.A./B.Sc/B.Com with at least 45% marks and a 1 year course in Bachelor in Education (passed or appearing in final year exam). It should be in accordance with the NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure) Regulations
- Higher secondary with a pass percentage of 50% and a 4 year course in BA/B.Sc. (Ed) or B.A. (Ed.)/B.Sc. (Ed.) (passed or appearing in final year exam)
Diploma and degree courses in teaching must be approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). But for Diploma in Education (Special Education) and B.Ed. (Special Education) courses recognition by Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) will be only considered.

I have completed bed, now i want to apply for the ctet exam.As per the stated eligibility criteria i am applicable to take paper 2.Can i give paper 2 in one schedule and paper 1 in another.
Hi sir,
My wife has done 3 years diploma in electronic and then had completed her graduation(BA in maths) with 48% marks. Can u please confirm that is she eligible for CTET examination? If not, will she be eligible if she completes the B.Ed course?
