please tell me what are group exams and how to apply for them?

if you are asking for tnpsc , then its full form is Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC)
every year the exam is conducted group wise having different eligibility and posts .....
generally there are 4 groups with minimum eligibility of graduation.....

is there no group exam for central government?
if so then what exams should i write?

TNPSC group exams are just like other state public service commission exam,it has four groups 1,2,3 and 4.

Since,you are an engineer,I will advice you to go for group-1 and 2.

Group-1 consists of mainl executive posts like executive engineer,deputy collector etc.

Group-2 consists of post like junior engineer,sub-megistrate,municple commissioner etc.

Last date for applying for group-2 was 30.12.2009 whic is over,however you can appear for group-1 last date for online application is 27.01.2010,from its official website link given below.

for all the details plese log on to www.upsc.gov.in
for job in state governments you have to write state group exams

Group exams are the exams conducted by the government for various jobs such as IAS,IPS which are highly valuable.

There are two type of group exams they are group 1 and group 2 where group is the primary selection.

For the group 1 primary exam you should through of the basic concepts of your subject.
