What is the procedure to become an IPS officer?


...what is the process to happen IPS Officer?...please tell me how to become one

Hello
IPS (Indian Police Service) is a prestigious service,where the competetiton to become an officer of this cadre is tough which demands lots of hard work,determination and skills,which will make it much easier to reach there.


IPS examination are conducted by the UPSC every year for which the notifications are published in the month of February.



ELIGIBILITY-:

-> Candidate must be a graduate from a recognised University.Those in the final year of their graduation can also apply.

-> Age should be minimum 21 years and below 30 years on the 1st of August of the year of the Examination.
Age relaxation is applicable for OBC-3 years,SC/ST-5 years and to some extent for Defence Personnels.

-> Height for Male candidates-165 cm and 160 cm for ST.
Height for Female candidates-150 cm and 145 cm for ST.


EXAM PATTERN-:

It consists of two stages as,

-> Preliminary Examination: Of objective type questions.

-> Main Examination: Consists of written descriptive type questions.And those passing the Mains are called fro the Interview.

The Preliminary Examination is generally held in the month of May/June and the Main Examination in the month of October/November respectively.


Number of ATTEMPTS-:

-> General Candidates-4 attempts.OBC Candidates-7 attempts and there is no limit for the SC/ST candidates.


So if you are graduate or in the final year of your graduation then you can go ahead and start your preparation and keep your eyes glued for the notifications next year 2013 for the IPS examination.

Please Note: Becoming an:

IAS (Indian Administrative Services) officer
IPS (Indian Police Services) officer etc…

Is all done though the same “UPSC held Civil Services” examination! This guide is written from the point of view of becoming an IAS officer. However, the procedure to become an IPS etc. officer is also the same!

Indian Police Service(IPS), to become an IPS officer one has to apply, appear and crack Civil Service Examination once every year.

To be eligible for IPS Civil Service exam one must be an Indian national. He should have either appeared for the final Graduation Degree exam in any stream of education or pass from a recognised University within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate. The candidate should possess good Physical Fitness.

Apart from this the aspiring candidate for IPS should have minimumphysical requirement as prescribed:-

HEIGHT:- General Male should be 165cm and Female should be 150cm while SC/ST male should be 160cm and Female should be 145cm.

CHEST:- Male should be 85cm while Female should be 79cm expandable to 5cm in both the cases.

The selection is through two stages of written exam followed by personal Interview.

CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test - Preliminary exam, the candidate selected out of it is called to write Civil Service Main Exam during 2nd stage and the candidate selected from the main exam is finally selected through Personal Interview.
