What should be the minimum qualification to get into Indian Air Force?

Sir, I am doing Diploma in Mechanical Engineering. Can I join Air Force after completing my Diploma? Please advise me for my future. If I am not eligible on the basis of Diploma then what should I study further to get into Indian Air Force?

Yes, you can apply for Indian Air Force if you have completed Diploma course in Engineering (any stream).

But Diploma holders in engineering can apply for Airman post only in Combatant Group 'X' under Technical trades.

After successful training, you will be appointed on the post of Aircraftmen (AC(rank)) at any Air Force station.

You could be appointed as anyone of the following trades.
  • Radio Fitter
  • Electrical Fitter
  • Airframe Fitter
  • Plant Maintenance Fitter (E)
  • Plant Maintenance Fitter (M)
  • Engine Fitter
  • Weapon Fitter
  • Missile Fitter (E)
  • Missile Fitter (L)
  • Missile Fitter (M)
  • Radar Fitter
  • Workshop Fitter (C)
  • Instrument Fitter
  • Workshop Fitter (B)
However, if you pursue graduation degree in engineering, then you will be eligible for CDS exam and AFCAT exam. Through these exams, you will have more opportunities to join Indian Air Force in Flying, Ground Duty branch.
Do you have any question? or have anything to say?
