Re: What should we do to become an IAS officer
Well to become IAS officer, firstly you must appear for a competitve entrance exam conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. Only upon clearing this entrance exam you can become Indian Administrative Service Officer.
Eligibility 1. You should be of Indian origin. 2. A graduation degree in any discipline. 3. Age limit is 21 to 30 years. 4. Age limit is relaxed by 3 years for OBC. 5. There is five years relaxation for SC/ST candidates. Exam Pattern The first set of exam is called preliminary exams. There are two papers in preliminary exams. First paper would be on General Studies while second would be on optional subject which you are free to select. If passed the preliminary exam, you will be called for the main exam. There are nine papers in the main exams. The first couple of papers are related to language. For first paper you must select a Indian language while second paper would be on English language. Both these papers are qualifying papers and their marks will not be added in the total. Third paper would be on essay while fourth and fifth paper would be on General Studies. Remaining four papers would be on optional subjects. You will have to select two optional subjects for these papers. How To Prepare For general studies you should refer to NCERT books for Class 12th. Apart from that you must read newspaper and watch news to be prepared for general knowledge. You must select your native language for Indian language paper. If your native language is not in the list then choose the language you understand the most. Please remember that it should not be English. Your English should be fluent to clear the English language paper. Try to improve your English by reading English newspapers and English channels. You should also communicate with others in English. A good way to check whether you are making improvement in English or not is by calling call center of your mobile phone company and speaking in English. Optional subjects should be related to your graduation course. Don't go for any subject that is not related to your course else you will find it difficult to prepare for such subject. |

Re: What should we do to become an IAS officer
Dear student,
To become an IAS officer, one has to appear for the Indian Civil Service Examinations. The primary requirement for this is that the aspirant should be holding a bachelor’s degree (any field). Even those with a professional degree like doctors and engineers can also appear for the exam. The second criterion is that they should be in the age group of twenty one to thirty years. This is relaxed for those from the reserved category. The third criterion is that the person should be an Indian National. There is an underlying clause on the number of attempts allowed. The one’s that are belonging to the general category can attempt 4 times, OBCs 7 times and the SC/STs unlimited attempts. Where to study: 1.Vajiram & Ravi Institute for Civil Services Examination, New Delhi 2.Cosmos IAS Academy, New Delhi 3.Study Circle Virat Bhawan, New Delhi 4.Rau’s IAS Study Circle, New Delhi 5.Brilliant Tutorials Pvt. Ltd Career Prospects: IAS is a hierarchical service. All those who clear the civil services exam, go through a 2 year probation period; most of which is spent in training. After this, they can be posted to the state secretariat or as field officers or at the district magistrate's office. Their duties are regulatory in nature like law and order, enforcement of rules and general administration, etc. Promotion from this rank makes one under secretary. Then, one is promoted as Joint Secretary, which is the highest among the government of India administrative posts. Then comes the Additional Secretary, then the Secretary, followed by the Chief Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary. Most of the promotions are time scale based. IAS is probably the only service that offers assured career progression in state and central government ministries and departments. |
