How to become a Commissioner of Income Tax and ITO?


I completed my B.COM last year(2011). Now i am doing Charter Accountants course after passing CA can i directly applied for ITO.?

To become a commissioner in Income Tax department you have to appear and qualify in Civil Service examination. It is conducted by UPSC.

The eligibility to appear in the examination is that candidate must have passed bachelor degree in any discipline from a recognised university and the age limit is 21-32 years with relaxation in upper age limit for reserved category.

To become a Commisioner of Income Tax and ITO, is you must have a bachelor's degree from a recogniszed university.
And also you have to appear in the exam called SSC CGL and have to appear it .

After completing your CA, you are eligible to become an Income Tax Commissioner and ITO. For that, you have to appear for the SSC CGL exam or UPSC exam and get a qualifying score to become an Income Tax Commissioner and ITO.

First pass UPSC competitive exam of Indian Civil services. Join as Assistant commissioner. After about eight years or so you will be promoted as joint/ additional commissioner. Thereafter if everything goes well you will be commissioner with a service of 18–20 years to your credit.

°°° There are two main routes to become an Income Tax Officer and ITO in India, i.e. SSC CGL exam or UPSC exam.
°°° SSC CGL exam is the main recruitment exam for Grade C and B inspectors for the Department of Income Tax which comes under the central government.

To Become a Commissioner of Income Tax and ITO you need to be an IRS Qualified. You can become an IRS officer through Civil Services Exam. Civil Services Exam is conducted by UPSC every year.

Eligibility Criteria required to apply for Civil Services examination is you must have completed or appearing in final year of graduation in any discipline from a recognised university. Candidate age must lie between 21 years to 30 years. Upper age relaxation are available for reserved category candidates.
