Chemical and metallurgist is very small organization in Indian railway .
The cadre is mostly concentrated on Research Design and standards organization .

The responsibility of cadre is for preparing the specification and testing of materials used for different application.

They are involved in testing of materials , for chemical , metallurgical physical, thermal , tribological and other properties required for railway use such as metals, allots, paints etc.
