A Probationary DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) is a rank in the police force and is typically an entry-level position for officers who have recently completed their training. To become a Probationary DSP officer, one must typically pass the relevant exams and meet the eligibility criteria set by the relevant authority, which can vary depending on the country or region.

In general, to become a Probationary DSP officer, one must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university, be within a certain age range (usually between 21-30 years), and pass a written exam and physical fitness test. Additionally, one must undergo training at a police academy or training center to learn the necessary skills and knowledge required for the job.

The following steps are involved in becoming a Probationary DSP officer in the Indian police:-

Eligibility Criteria:-
The candidate must be a citizen of India, have a Bachelors Degree in any discipline from a recognised University, and be between the ages of 21 and 32 years.

Clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination, which is conducted in 3 stages preliminary exam, mains exam and personality test.

The candidate must clear the IPS exam, which is conducted by the UPSC after the Civil Services Examination.

Once the candidate has clear the IPS exam, they will be appointed as a Probationary DSP officer and will undergo training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.

After successfully completing the training program, the Probationary DSP officer will be posted as a full-fledged DSP in a district or a specialised unit of the police force.

There are two channels for recruitment to DSP posts in States.

Direct recruitment through State Public Service Commission
Promotion from Inspector rank

A directly recruited DSP rank officer has very high chances to get IPS conferred after put in minimum 8 years of service. A lot of other variables play their role in this. They include, 1. Age of entry into DSP rank

2. Number of IPS vacancies for feeder grade

3. Your merit position in your batch.
