Changing colleges for externships were being permitted till last year. The MUHS academic council discussed the NMC’s gazette on Compulsory Rotating Medical Internships Regulations and issued the circular. According to the circular, all medical colleges were informed that the process of changing colleges/attached hospitals for internships, which was allowed as per an amendment in 2012, will be discontinued for degree courses. The new rule will be applicable from the date of the circular, it added. An internship of one year after the four-and-a-half-year MBBS course is mandatory to get the degree and to be eligible for postgraduate admissions. The directive has brought clarity for students. The norms, though were to be applicable last year, were relaxed on account of the pandemic.

NExT exam is a two step exam. Step 1 will be in final year of MBBS and step 2 will be after internship as per the draft published recently. But there is chances of changes in draft as it is not final draft.

Talking about exam pattern earlier MCQs were more of one liner pattern but now it will be more likely based on clinical scenarios.

Step 1 will be 6 paper exam divided in 3 days 2 paper per day, and there will be break after every one day.

Step 2 will be conducted after internship and it will consist of clinical/viva based exam.

For preparation of NExT, I will suggest just read as you are reading. All 19 subjects are important. Focus on your university exam too.
