Re: Is it true that based on the latest SC verdict, now PhD holders cannot apply for Assistant professor jobs?
--- Due to the pandemic, many candidates could not complete their PhDs and urged the government to relax the elegibility this year.
The University Grants Commission extended the date of applicability of PhD as the minimum qualification for recruitment of assistant professor in universities from July 2020 to july 2023. PhD has become mandatory for direct recruitment of assistant professor in university but for colleges UGC NET is still the minimum eligibility criteria for assistant professorship. |

As per UGCs latest rule , PhD degree will be mandatory for all those who wish to join university department as Assistant professor .
However NET would not be required for those who have completed their PhD. Candidates with PG degree , who have cleared NET will continue to remain eligible for recruitment to the post. |
