In order to become Chartered Accountant, you need to follow these steps after qualifying secondary level of examination:

• Register for Common Proficiency Test by downloading the application form and submitting it to your nearest regional center of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

CPT Registration Form

• Appear for the Test after qualifying Higher Secondary level of examination.

Registration can be done either after qualifying secondary level for examination or after qualifying higher secondary level of examination but to take the test, one must have qualified higher secondary examination.

• Register for Integrated Professional Competence Course.

After qualifying the test, candidate become eligible to enroll for the Integrated Professional Competence Course. This stage of the course is followed by the stages mentioned below:

• Articleship Training - 3 years and six months
• Computer Traininig - 100 Hrs
• Final Course
• General Management Course

Firstly you will have to complete 12th standard. You won't be able to apply for the Chartered Accountancy course unless you have completed 12th standard. You can pick any subjects to clear 12th standard.

Once you have completed Class 12th, you will have to give written test called Common Proficiency Test. This test is the first step of Chartered Accountancy and only once you have cleared the Common Proficiency Test, you will get admission for the second stage.

The Common Proficiency Test is conducted twice in a year. While you are eligible to register for it as soon as after completing 10th standard but only the candidates who have completed 12th standard are eligible to sit in this written exam.


CPT Exam Pattern

1. Fundamentals of Accountancy

2. Economics

3. Mercantile Law

4. Quantitative Aptitude


These four sections of the Common Proficiency Test are divided into 2 goups. Score at least 30 percent marks in both groups and you will clear the Common Proficiency Test. After which you will have to take admission for the Integrated Professional Competence Course.

after completing 12th standard only you can do chartered accountant by passing your 10th you can take in your intermediate the course MEC this is the best to do chartered accountant

You cannot become a CA just after passing 10th . You need to clear Class 12 examination to be eligible for CPT.
You need to clear a CPT(common proficiency test) to become a CA .
You should prefer commerce stream in 11th and 12th as the concepts which come in CPT are mostly of commerce .
The CPT is conducted twice in a year.
You have plenty of time to study hard and clear CPT .
A good book for preparing for CPT - TAXMIN CPT .
