Gauri Devi Government College for Women is shortly called as G.D. Government College and the college came into existence in the year 1964 with UG course in the faculty of Arts. The college began with 135 students and single faculty, but now it has become a multi-faculty institution offering Post Graduate courses. The college was established as a women’s college realizing the importance of women education and it is offering courses with affiliation from the University of Rajasthan.

History of the college:

Even though the college began its journey with a single UG course in the faculty of Arts, science faculty was introduced immediately in the year 1965 and honors in political science was introduced in the year 1968 with the inclusion of commerce faculty in the year 1980 thereby expanding its horizons. The college earned sanction from the state government to offer PG courses in psychology and political science in the year 1992 and the Sanskrit and Hindi departments of the college were also granted permission to offer PG courses. Later in the year 2009-2010, the college introduced UG course in geography and to ensure overall development of the students, the college is presently conducting year-round extra-curricular activities through its games departments. Other activities like Women’s Studies Cell, Planning Forum, RMol, NCC, NSS, Cultural Committee, etc… are also being carried out in the college.

Infrastructure:

The campus of G.D. Government College for Women is provided with a wide range of infrastructural facilities. There are playgrounds, computer centre, hostel, central library, laboratories and 26 classrooms in the college for offering both theoretical, practical and overall development of the students.
