Kerala Agricultural University, Thrissur
This university is abbreviated to be KAU situated in the district of Thrissur was set up on 24th February 1071. The establishment is by the Act 33 of 1971 of the Kerala State Legislature, called The Agricultural University Act, 1971. The university started operating on 1st February 1972 when 2 educational and 21 research institutions were combined together for the development of agriculture.
KAU has ten affiliated colleges- for the domains of Agriculture, Animal Sciences, Agricultural Engg., Forestry, Fisheries, Cooperation Banking Management, and Dairy Sciences. The university has an aims to gain excellence in Agricultural Education and Research along with Sustainable Development and security of agricultural community, by providing the required human resources, skills and technology.
KAU is situated at Vellanikkara in the Thrissur District on the National Highway (NH47), and has easy accessibility by road, rail and air. KAU provides a number of facilities for its students. It provides electron microscopy, dairy plant, radiotracer Laboratory, meat technology and carcass utilization plant. In addition, it has a central library, auditorium, indoor stadium, computer centre etc.
Courses offered:
• 7 graduate courses in fields such as Agriculture, Forestry, Animal Sciences, Cooperation & Banking, Fisheries, Dairy Science and Agricultural Engineering and Technology.
• 9 Post-graduate courses offering degrees that master in the graduate courses and other areas like Agricultural Statistics, Horticulture, Home Sciences comprising Food and Nutrition technology, Animal Sciences and fishery technology.
• Doctorate programmes being offered in 23 areas comprising of almost the above discussed topics.
Admission:
For Under Graduate courses or bachelor courses the admission will be granted on the basis of the merit list obtained in the entrance examination, the Controller for admissions by the state government of Kerala is responsible for this entrance examination.
For the Post Graduate courses of the university-
Selections will be made on the strict merit of written tests and personal interviews.
For admission to PhD courses in the university-
Selection is interview based.
