The National Educational Testing Bureau of University Grants Commission (UGC) undertakes the National Eligibility Test (NET). This is held in order to observe the exact eligibility for the candidates in lectureships and also for offering the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) to the Indian aspirants in order to ensure the lowest standard for awarding entrant within the research based programmes as well as teaching professional. The test is also conducted in the Oriya (Paper II). The paper has a maximum of one hundred marks. The time duration for the exam is one hours and fifteen minutes.

There are a total of fifty questions, each carrying a maximum of two marks. There is no negative marking observed in the exam. Each of the question is an Objective Type and carries a maximum of four options, Candidates have to  answer any of the four and mark the same in the OMR Sheet as per offered by the examination boards. All of the questions, in the paper are compulsory. Any usages of calculators of log tables are strictly prohibited in the exam. Candidates are advised to go through several previous years question papers in order to retain the pattern as well as types of potential questions
