Besant Theosophical College came into existence in the year 1915 on the 19th of July due to the pioneering efforts of Dr. Anne Besant. The day of the establishment of the college was a memorable day in the history of Rayalaseema since this was the only institution to cater to the higher education requirements of the people of the local region. The college lays more attention on the development of sports & games talent among students.

Affiliations:

Initially, the college was affiliated to the Madras University and later in the year 1917, when Dr. Annie Besant led the agitation for home rule, it was not able to continue its association with the university and therefore, it came under the control of a newly organized National University for which Dr. Rabindranath Tagore was the chancellor. However, again in the year 1923, the college came under the affiliation of Madras University except for a short interval of 1926-29, during which period the college was working under the Andhra University. Again, when the jurisdiction of Madras and Andhra Universities were modified, the college came under Andhra University from 1954-56. Finally, from the year 1956, the college is offering education with affiliation from the Sri Venkateswara University.
