National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar offers various courses at graduate, post graduate and PhD levels. The institute has got thirteen departments and each department offers doctoral programme. In addition to this, the institute offers part time M.Tech/ PhD programmes in various disciplines too. The institute conducts separate entrance exam for admission to M.Tech/ M.Sc and PhD programmes.

Admission to Bachelor in Technology Courses

Admission to B.Tech courses is based on the score obtained in All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) and marks obtained in the qualifying exam. Students belonging to reserved category can avail the reservation benefits in terms of cut off mark and seats.

Admission process for Post graduate programmes

Admission to Master of Technology programmes is based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) score. Candidates need to have a minimum of 60 % of aggregate marks in their qualifying exams so as to apply for this course. Non GATE candidates with good marks in graduation are eligible to apply. But they will be considered for admission only if the seats remain vacant.

Non GATE candidates will have to attend a written test of the respective department of the Institute. Scores obtained in this test are considered for the admission process.  Candidates with two years experience of full time job and those who are UGC/ AICTE approved technical institutes are also eligible to apply. Such candidates do not require a valid GATE score or UGC/ CSIR fellowship. Foreign national candidates can also apply for M.Tech programmes only if they posses the same minimum qualification for the course. The institute conducts its own entrance test for admission to Master of Science Programmes in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Admission process for Doctoral Programme

Admission to regular PhD programmes in Engineering Departments will be based on the merit score obtained in the qualifying exam. Candidates with first class or a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in graduation or post graduation are eligible to apply. For admission to PhD programmes in Sciences/ Humanities/ Management Departments, candidates are required to have 60% of aggregate marks in post graduation in respective subjects.

Admission to the regular/ part time PhD programmes in all departments is done through entrance test conducted by the department concerned. Candidates who secure a minimum of 40% marks in the entrance test will be called for interview. Final selection will be based on the marks secured in the written test and interview.   There will be relaxation in cut off marks and age according to the National Reservation Policy of the Government prevailing at the time of admission for the reserved category candidates.
