Brand managers are the professionals who have the responsibility to create a recognizable image for their company’s product. Their work may include several factors that comprise development and maintenance of image of the products through the brand design and placement. They are responsible to create a personality for their company’s products or services that will convey the purpose of them to the public.
The brand manager’s job is a heavy task that requires various qualities such as analyzing mind, attention to smaller details and better understanding of how the customers mind works. Their daily tasks include the supervision of creating the marketing campaigns for products, constantly monitoring the competitive advertising and frequently changing the product’s image, packaging, etc.
Many reputed companies that involve in the manufacture of multiple products recruit these professionals. Usually experience is required for this high designation posts. Some companies place these brand managers as the in charge for each brand’s success, considering each brand as mini-company. They have the responsibility for placing a particular brand popular in the market.
Qualifying Exam
Most of the companies’ recruit candidates with a minimum qualification of under graduate degree in related subjects for the posts of brand manager. Usually bachelor’s degree in marketing or communication is preferred. They can also specialize in other subjects like sales, general business, finance or accounting. However for an entry-level job, an under graduate business-related degree is a must.
The undergraduates will be posted as assistant brand manager at the entry level. For moving up to the position of brand manager, they should have post graduation in business field such as MBA in marketing.
Who is eligible to apply?
Candidates who wish to become a brand manager for a particular company should pursue qualification of undergraduate degree in business or related subjects. This is the minimum qualification required by most of the companies for the entry-level jobs. For pursuing this bachelor’s degree, they must first complete their higher secondary education with good academic scores from any reputed institutions. Many universities in India offer these undergraduate programmes. Moreover, for getting the post of brand manager, one should be a postgraduate in marketing or business related specializations and should have relevant experience in this field.

- Study 12th in any discipline from reputed institutions and pursue good academic scores in the examinations.
- Join the universities or institutions, which offer undergraduate degree in marketing or related field and pursue the degree
- Search for internship programmes in any marketing industries for getting an exposure in this field.
- Gain experience by working in any advertising companies or in reputed companies that recruit candidates for the post of assistant brand managers.
- Pursue a post graduation in business degree like MBA in marketing to move up to the post of brand managers.

Brand managers need exceptional skills to perform well in this domain. They should possess a creative mind and should have analytical thinking ability. They must have ability to work on both small and big concepts and should also focus on minute details. Like in all other marketing fields, they will also have to work in team to implement a particular project. Therefore, it is necessary for them to have an eligibility to perform in group.
