Difference between Demographer and Cartographer
Demography is a science which is a subsection of sociology. The job of a demographer involves the studies related to the various trends in population relating to the distribution of the population in a country. Apart from analyzing the population trends, demographers also find out the different factors which led to the increase or decrease of population. Demographers conduct different statistical surveys and arrive on specific conclusions with respect to the population trends. Demographers are also called population sociologists are also capable of forecasting the future population trends which can be of great help to the various social service firms, government etc to reframe their policies accordingly. Cartographer also called as mapping scientists are involved in the study and preparation of geographical maps. These professionals conduct surveys and collect information from aerial photographs etc which will be used in making drawings related to various areas on earth surface. The drawings made by the cartographers give precise and specific information regarding the physical and social characteristics of different areas in earth.
Demographer and Opportunities
The career opportunities in case of demographers are numerous and are expected to improve further. The candidates who are qualified in this area can get in to jobs mainly in the government departments. Demographers have opportunities in statistical departments, Census department, Immigration services, Institutes of Health etc. Demographers are also being employed by various research organizations and corporations also. There are many private research institutions also where in the demographers can get employed.
Cartographer and Opportunities
One of the major employment divisions for Cartographer is mainly the Research organizations. The employment caches are also high in the government sector. There are certain government organizations which have separate sections for the cartographers. Some of the government institutes are Geological Survey of India (GSI), Centre for Advanced Remote Sensing and Environmental Studies etc. Indian Meteorological Department is a government department which hires the services of cartographers.
Key difference between Demographer and Cartographer
Demographers are supposed to make observations about the different population trends where as Cartographers are professionals who are engaged in mapping the different areas on surfaces of earth. In order to become a Demographer the candidates should be graduates in statistics/sociology. But the candidates should be graduates in engineering/Physical science/Geography in order to become a Cartographer.
