To become an ACP(Asst. Commissioner of Police) one has to become an IPS(Indian Police Service) officer by cracking Civil Service Exam conducted by UPSC every year.

The eligible candidate must be an Indian national having either appear for the final Graduation Degree exam or pass in any stream from a recognised university within the age of 21 to 30 years with upper age relaxation for reserved candidate with good Physical Fitness.

The selection is through three stages:-

-CSAT - Civil Service Aptitude Test - Preliminary Exam

-Civil Service Main Exam

-Personal Interview

Dear friend,

ACP stands for Assistant Commissioner of Police.

ACP posts are filled through UPSC's Civil Services Exam.

Civil Services Exam is commenced once in a year for the recruitment of posts like IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, ACP, and much more.

Eligibility Criteria of IPS Exam:

Qualification:

You must have completed Graduation from any recognized University.

You can also appear for this exam, if you are in final year of your Graduation.

Age Criteria:

For General: 21 to 30 years

For OBC: 21 to 33 years

For SC/ST: 21 to 35 years

No. of Attempts:

For General: 3

For OBC: 7

For SC/ST: No Restriction

Stages to Qualify Civil Services Exam for becoming IPS:

>> Preliminary Exam (CSAT Exam)

>> Mains Exam

>> Personal Interview

Physical Standards required in Civil Services Exam for IPS:

Height:
For Males: Minimum height is 165 cm,
For Females: Minimum height is 150 cm.

Other than General Category Candidates, minimum required height is 160 cm for Male and 145 cm for Female Candidates.

Chest:
For Males: Minimum 84 cm, and should be expandable up to 5 cm
For Females: Minimum 79 cm, and should be expandable up to 5 cm

UPSC and SSC exams are competitive level exam which oftenly arranges for the combined central civil service exams for the state level, after qualifying these exams IPS and other police service are recruited as ACP. some physical fitness challenges are to be faced before the recruitment procedure.

1. preliminary examination-conducted during the second half of may.
after qualifying preliminary examinaation, you need to appear for
2. main examination- conducted during the month of oct/nov
3. interview (for those who passed the main examination)

eligibility: 1. degree from a recognised university
2. age limit: min max
general- 21yrs. 30 yrs.
obc - 21 yrs 33 yrs.
sc/st - 21 yrs. 35 yrs.

attempts: general- 4
obc - 7
sc/st - no limit

After getting selected for IPS you will be under a probation period as an SP of a district in any state in which you have been allocated.
after the probation period of two years, you will be confirmed as a district superintendent of police which in cities like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore are known as ACP.
