You can join Indian Army through CDS(Combined Defence Service) conducted by UPSC two times every year as CDS-I and CDS-II for entry in to:-

Indian Military Academy,
Indian Naval Academy
Indian Air Force Academy
Indian Officer's Training Academy

Those who has completed graduation in any stream within the age of 19 to 25 years Indian National can apply for CDS.

As you have completed your graduation degree in Commerce you can apply for IMA and OTA wings of CDS.

For graduates the best way to go for defence forces is CDS exam .This year it will be held on 16.09.2012 date of notification is 2/6/2012 . last date of recipt of application is 2/7/2012

If you want to join the Indian Army, I am giving you complete details about the procedure. Please follow.

The exam which is conducted by the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) for the recruitment of graduates in the Indian Army is CDS.

CDS stands for the Combined Defense Services.

NDA 1 and NDA 2 are the main exams conducted for the recruitment of 12th pass into the Indian Defense.


Now there are certain Basic Eligibility Conditions which are to be met by the aspirant in order to be eligible for the exam :-


1. You should be an Indian Citizen.

2. You must be a minimum graduate in any stream from a recognized college or University in India.

3. Your age should be within 19-24 years as in the year of applying.

4. You should be physically fit to apply.



Thus anybody fulfilling these criteria are eligible to apply for the Combined Defense Services.


This exam takes place twice in a year. i.e in February and September.

The February exam was held yesterday i.e 12th February 2012 (Sunday). Another exam would be held in September.

However no notification is out yet. So Please keep looking for it in the Official Website of the UPSC. Click Here

After you pass the exam, you would be called for an Interview which would be HR + Personal.

If you clear, then you would be joining the IMA - Indian Military Academy and would gain an intensive training there for about an year.

yes , you can join through NCC direct entry, provided you have NCC B grade certificate. Reply to the NCC entry advt by the army, and also you can opt for SSC in the indian army.

Dear friend appear for SSB/SSC examination, after your clear your exam, you will get a call letter for SSB/SSC selection procedure (which is of 8 to 15 days)
which include aptitude test, GTO, medical examinations, after clearing this all India based merit list is announced

After 10th you can join Air Force by Clearing NDA exam .The Process is to be short-listed for Air Force after the initial selection procedure, go through a 3-year training at National Defence Academy, followed by specialised training at the Air Force Academy.

NDA exam is conducted by Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). This exam is conducted twice a year .

Eligibility Criteria:

Age : 16 ½ to 19 years

Nationality: Indian

Sex: applicable only to men.

Educational Qualifications: You should have passed/appearing in your 10+2 with Physics and Mathematics.

Since,you are in master degree course,the age limit for you is 26 years.

Permanent Commission

Eligibility: Men with 10+2/ Intermediate, graduates and engineering graduates as officers

Recruitment of Commissioned Officers in the Armed Forces is mainly through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).

10+2: Through NDA

Eligibility: Boys with age between 16.5 years to 19 years.

Conducted by UPSC, twice a year in all major cities. There is an interview process with the State Selection Board after clearing the exam. The notification for the exams appears in all major newspapers and publication in addition to the official website.

Graduates (Direct Entry)

Eligibility: age 19-24 years, University graduate or equivalent

Combined Defense Services Examination (CDSE), an all-India competitive examination is conducted by UPSC twice a year. After the interview conducted by Service Selection Board, successful candidates can join Indian Military Academy for their pre- commission training. If finally selected, depending on their merit list ranking, they are sent to Indian Military Academy.

Engineering Graduates (Direct Entry)

Eligibility: Age 20-27 years, engineering graduate

An interview is conducted by Service Selection Board and engineering graduate can directly joint the Indian Military Academy.

Univeristy Entry Scheme

Eligibility: Age 18-24 years, students in final or pre-final years of engineering degree course

They are eligible for induction into technical branches/services of the army.

10+2 (PCM Tech)

Eligibility: Age 161/2-191/2 years, 10+2 PCM (Technical)

One has to apply directly to the Recruitment Directorate in May and November.

Other recruitments

Eligibility: Serving JCOS/NCOs/OR in age group of 30-35 years, with an Army Senior School Certificate Pass (Class XI CBSE Pattern) Qualification

Government has approved the creation of a 6,000 strong Support Cadre of Special Commissioned Officers. For commissioning eligible candidates will be selected after screening /selection through Service Selection Board and Medical Board.

Short Service Commission

If one is not sure of a long-term career with Indian army then SSC is the way to go. It gives an option of joining in the Indian Army and serving as a Commissioned officer for 5 years. At the end of the period, you are allowed to opt for a permanent commission. Alternatively you can also choose for another 5 years and also can choose to resign from your post at any time during this period. It is also open to women.

There are many few more methods to join Indian army like Officers Training Academy, Women’s Special Entry Scheme, NCC Special Entry Scheme and Short Service Commission Technical. The details for each one of these can be easily found on the respective websites.

First apply to NDA exam by online process or apply to IES exam for graduates for higher jobs the jobs are need studies in maths, physics subjects and qualification is degree for IES Exam <indian engineering servies > please check detaile in Www.joininindianarmy.nic.in age is limit 16.5 to 19years for nda exam, and 19-25 years for ies exam,

3.NCC entry(if You hac eNCC C certificate)
4.Combined Defence Services: After Graduation
5.Technical Graduate Course
The procedure is:
After clearing the written test you willl be called for a SSB interview.It consist of three stages:
i)PABT test(optional)
ii)Screening Test(1 day)
iii)Psychology test,GTO test(3 days)
If you cleared the interview then you will have to give a thorough medical test of about 5 days.
After that you have to wait for the merit list clearing which you will get a call from Academy to join.

1.through writing cds(combined defence services) which will be held on 15th february 2010.
2.through military engineering services who are constantly recruiting fresh graduates from engineering colleges.

IMA(Indian Military Academy) or OTA(Officer Training Academy) and you can't apply for the CDS under IAF(Indian Air Force) or INA(Indian Naval Academy). because for both IAF and INA you need Mathematics and Physics Subjects in graduation or you have completed Engineering degree.

Eligibility Criteria for CDS:

Educational qualification:

For IAF and INA: B.Sc with Math and Physics or Engineering
degree

For IMA and OTA: graduation in any discipline..

Age Limit:

for INA: 19 years to 22 years
for IAF: 19 years to 23 years
for IMA: 19 years to 24 years
for OTA: 19 years to 25 years

Both the exams are of same syllabus and same pattern.

Eligibility for CDS exam:-
