Hi, I am NEHA GUPTA,a Teacher in Maths by profession in a well reputed school in New Delhi. I have done my B.Sc (DU) and my B.Ed( IP ) and I plan to study further. I had wanted to do my MBA but then got married and have 2 kids now aged 5 and 1.5 yrs.

I WANT TO WORK AS A LECTURER IN SOME COLLEGE AFTER SOMETIME BUT I AM CONFUSED WHETHER TO STUDY MATHS as in M.Sc ( Maths) , EDUCATION (M.Ed) or MBA( Finance).

Pls guide me so as to which course has maximum benefits and scope.

Look Mrs.Neha as you are saying that you have done graduate in mathematics and you are thinking of to be the Lecturer in some college.So let me make you clear about the degrees which you have mentioned above.

1.M.Sc(math)-By doing this i think you can only stick to teaching profession nothing more, and at the most you can do is joining ISI for higher studies and research work in mathematics.
2.M.Ed(education):By doing this again you are going to stick with teaching profession, though you will be recruited in a higher position for doing master in education,thats all.
3.MBA(finance):By doing this you are totally shifting from one world to another world, by doing this you have to leave your teaching profession and have to enter the corporate world.

So, this is the details of the degrees which you have mentioned in the above.
Now you have to choose which one to opt for.

dear neha ,

i think doing m.sc in maths will cherish your interest as u want to teach students but with m.ed u wont be having complete vast develpment of your teaching skills .

m.ba won't even help you to go for teaching but in it you can ensure a good job by pursuing it from good college.

these are for the options you have chosen . you can definitely go for some other options but you must the option which suits you best .

Good to know that you want to be in such dignified profession.
Well, I must tell you that Post graduate programmes like Msc. (Maths) and (M Ed) are basically meant to be in teaching profession. Since you want to be a Lecturer, M.Ed will have better prospect then M Sc (Maths).

But... MBA in Finance or Insurance will always keep more options open for you if at any point of time you want to be a part of the corporate world. It wont be restricting you to a single profession like the other two.

Hello Neha! I will try to answer you based on the information available.

Since you are aiming to be a Lecturer, a Masters in Maths is an absolute must for you. As per the UGC norms,the basic requirement for lectureship is (a minimum of 55% marks at the Master's Level + NET/SLET qualification). If you do not meet the age-criteria for NET/SLET, only P.Hd in Maths can make you eligible for lectureship.

An MBA degree is going to land you in the corporate world - meaning a huge career change, which is not what you desire.

I can understand your disposition clearly. It all happens for us(females)
Since you are keen to become a Lecturer ( dignified profession) I would advice you to do M.Sc(Maths),Ph.D or M.Sc,M.Phil,Ph.D to enter this profession.

You need not do all by Full time, many Universities offer M.Sc/ Ph.D by Distance Education.

You will not be rated high if you are not having Doctoral degree.
And also the same with salary.

Try with determination and all the best to become Lecturer.

Thanks for helping me through. I think I will zero in on M.Ed. Can you suggest which institutes will be best suitable 4 me for pursuing this course???
ALSO, If I do M.Ed part time 4m IGNOU or some other institute, what will be the job prospects???? I want to do Ph.D after that.

Thanks for understanding my mind . I thnk i will settle for M.Ed and not M.Sc because comparatively it will be easier to pursue.
2ndly, can you pls suggest some good institutes for doind M.Ed part time as i dont want to leave my job as well.

I have done B.com, MBA. i worked for 4 years after my MBA. After marriage i have taken a break of 6 years. i have one kid of 4years. Now again i am planning to work. I am good in Maths. but due to some personal reasons i did commerce. Is there any possibility to be a maths teacher or can further do some studies and opt for Maths.

i think doing mba in finance is better than the other two as the availability of job is more for mba finance. You may get high salary there.

I think M.sc Maths is a best option to become a lecturer in college. So, if you are interested to become a lecturer, then you have to need a Masters degree and then
you can go for interview and a written test to become a lecturer of Private college.

But, if you are interested to become a lecturer of government colleges, then you have to pass the UGC-NET exam, after clear this exams, you can join government colleges
as a lecturer. So, master degree is compulsory to become a lecturer.......
