You haven't mentioned which course you want to join and which government college you are talking about.

Generally the admission into a Government college is based on the rank in the entrance exam. So you have to appear for entrance exam and have to get very good marks in it to become eligible for admission into Government college.

If you are talking about Engineering colleges then you have to appear for JEE Main and Advanced for admission into IITs and NITs which are the top Government Engineering college.

Also many entrance exams may set a 50% marks in the 12th class as eligibility. Hence you must ensure that you have scored above 50% marks in 12th class so that you don't face any problem.

In JEE your 12th class marks will be counted . So you must get very good marks in the 12th if you want to make your chances brighter for admission into Government colleges.

You need very good percentage to get admission in government college. In engineering and medical both the fields the merit list are made based upon the entrance examination and 12th std result.

So you also need to appear for the respective entrance examination and score out of the box marks. Since government colleges are opted by most the marks criteria is very very high.

Atleast 85% to 90% result is required to get admission in government college.
