syllabus for cat exam-
The CAT exam pattern has been changed, now cat exam is a online test, but the syllabus for CAT is same as syllabus for previous CAT pattern.

There is no prescribed syllabus for CAT. It tests basically your managerial skills, team spirit, intelligentsia. Yet to help we give you some sketches of the syllabus

The CAT Test includes following sections.

1. Quantitative Ability
2. Data Interpretation
3. Data Sufficiency
4. Reading Comprehension
5. Logical Reasoning
6. Verbal Ability

Quantitative Ability: The purpose of quantitative ability section is for testing the candidates, their ability to solve problem. The quantitative section contains multiple choice questions based on mathematics. Topics include in this section are given below.

Quantitative / Mathematical Skills:

Geometry – Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional.
Ratios and Proportion- Arithmetic and fractional display problems on ratio and proportion.
Percentages.
Equations and Inequalities – Quadratic and linear equations.
Algebra – Questions based on algebraic expressions.
Profit & Loss – Arithmetical Problem Solving based on cost price, discounts, selling price, percentage profit, percentage loss.
Averages – problems like finding number of girls in a class wherein the average and other relevant data are given etc.
Percentages – Conventional questions on percentages.
Partnerships.
Time-Speed-Distance – Leave you with a typical time-speed-distance questin: Two trains A and B start from two stations towards each other, speeds given, one of them have better speed than the other, also time they start are given, then calculate when or at what distance they meet.
Work and time – Questions like : A and B can do a work in ten days, A quits halfway, then in how many days can B do the same work?
Numbers – Complex Numbers, Fractions etc.

Data Interpretation Section: Data are given in form of tables, charts, graphs. In this section it is tested that how candidates can interpret data.

Data Sufficiency Section: A statement is given with other statement, the candidates have to answer whether the given statement is enough to solve the problem or not.

Logical Reasoning: This section contains puzzles and logical questions.

Reading Comprehension and verbal ability section: It tests your knowledge in English grammar and English language.

Includes:

Reasoning: Critical reasoning, Assumption premise conclusion, visual reasoning, assertion and reasons, identifying valid inferences, statements and assumptions, identifying strong arguments and weak arguments, cause and effects, statements and conclusion, identifying true and false statement, linear arrangements, matrix arrangements, family tree problem, matrix arrangements, symbol based problems, sequencing, coding and decoding problem, number series.

English : comprehension of passage, syllogism, verbal reasoning, contextual, analogies, antonyms, fill in the blanks, jumbled paragraphs, foreign language words used in English, sentence correction and completion, odd man out, idioms, one word substitution, same word’s different usage, errors in word choice, incorrect words, phrasal, proverb, punctuation etc.

this is the only different in this exams.

i advise you to join TIME regular classes because you are preparing for first time.
and TIME is best institute for cat.

CAT or Common Admission Test takes place every year for admissions into the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) which are considered to be the best MBA colleges of India..

The CAT 2011 vouchers were sold at the Axis Bank Branches from 17th August,2011 to 1st October,2011

CAT mainly focuses on Vocabulary,Basic Mathematics and Data Interpretation

Eligibility :-

i think u should properly concentrate on ur BE first and simultaneously read english newspaper...not just reading mark the words u find difficult to understand and go for the meaning of the word....this will surely improve ur english and after graduation get admitted in CAT coaching institutes
