Re: What is the difference between Automobile Engineering and Mechanical Engineering?
Dear friend,
Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest branches of engineering. It encompasses many disciplines explained already in the other answer. Some of these disciplines have branched out. A mechanical engineer is a generalist in the sense that he can work in any industry manufacturing equipment, machinery etc. He can be employed in automobile industry also. A mechanical engineer would understand much of automobile engineering but the converse may not be totally true. An automobile engineer can be employed only in an automobile industry and he may not find acceptance say in a general machine shop. Automobile engineering is a specialized branch of mechanical engineering that involves many standards nearly exclusively used in vehicle design. An automobile engineer is likely to know more about sheet steel forming than a mechanical engineer in many other fields. Aerodynamics is also likely to figure into many automotive engineers knowledge base. Large process machines -- crushers, graders, mixers, etc. are unlikely to be familiar to automotive engineers. |

Re: What is the difference between Automobile Engineering and Mechanical Engineering?
Mechanical engineering covers everything that automobile engineering has, plus a lot more. While auto engg focuses on the electro-mechanics of auto works, mechanical goes into greater depth about machine design, CAD tools, structural engineering, materials and physical research.

Re: What is the difference between Automobile Engineering and Mechanical Engineering?
Hi,
I would say that Automobile Engineering (AE) is all about vehicles such as design, manufacturing, testing, assembly, repairing, etc. While Mechanical Engineering is about machines i.e. all types of machines. It is the parent department for the branches like automobile engineering, production engineering, design engineering, vibration and noise engineering etc... |

Re: What is the difference between Automobile Engineering and Mechanical Engineering?
Automobile engineering is exclusive about automobiles. Mechanical engineering deals with different mechanical aspects connected with different instruments. Compared with mechanical engineering, automobile engineering can be pursued during post graduation as specialisation.

Re: What is the difference between Automobile Engineering and Mechanical Engineering?
Mechanical engineering is more about manufacturing and designing of mechanical systems while automobile engineering is a division of mechanical engg which deals with vehicle engg and involves software engg, electrical engg etc. to manufacture an automobile.
In government sector you can try for the post of Motor Vehicle Inspector or Road Transport Officer. You can also try for the Engineering Services in the govt sector. Otherwise in private sector there is a lot of scope for an automobile engg. You can even try to get into defense services with your degree. you can try for the post of a scientist. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
