Purpose of conducting both exams ( CSIR NET or UGC NET) is the same, only difference in the subjects involved.
CSIR and UGC are 2 different governmental departments and both conduct their respective NET entrance exam. Candidates who have a master's degree in science stream with minimum 55% and above from any recognised university are eligible for CSIR NET. Candidate who have completed post graduation in the relevant subjects with at least 50% marks from any recognised University are eligible for UGC NET. So, if you want to do Ph.D program in Mathematics, you will have to appear for CSIR NET. |

Re: CSIR or UGC NET in which exam to appear for studying PhD in Mathematics?
To pursue PhD in Mathematics or Chemistry, you need to appear in CSIR NET as UGC NET
is not held for subjects like Mathematics and Chemistry. Further, you can also appear in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) held in these papers as many top institutes like IITs, NITs, etc. offer PHD admission in these subjects on the basis of GATE score also. |
