Medical Virology, which is also called as Clinical Virology is a branch of medicine or to be more specific it is a branch of clinical pathology that consist is characterizing and/or isolating one or more viruses responsible for some human pathologies by different direct or indirect techniques like molecular biology, biochemistry seologies and cellular cultures. It also consist in offering the absence of resistance of viruses in treating antiviral by viral genome sequencing for adaption of antiviral therapeutics at its best.
Diploma in Medical Virology is a two-year Postgraduate diploma course offered to Medical students as their PG level of study. This course is being offered only by a single government-run medical college in India, whose name is given below:

About Diploma in Medical Virology in NIV, Pune:
As mentioned earlier, National Institute of Virology, shortly called as NIV, Pune is the only institution offering this course in India and the Medical Council of India has approved the institution to admit four students per year for this course. this course is offered by the institution with affiliation from the Maharashtra University of Health Science. The course was previously affiliated to the Pune University before the estabslhmehnt of MUHS. The institute normally admits students to its courses through Common Medical Entrance Test and it also follows other factors government by the Medical Council of India for admission to future PG doctors. In addition to offering this course, the institute is also engaged in other acitivites like:
• Supply of laboratory animals
• Basic and applied research
• Surveillance-Human Mosquito birds and poultry
• Diagnostic and kit supply
• Outbreak response
Educational qualification requirement:
For seeking admission to the Diploma in Medical Virology course, candidates must have completed their UG course in medicine (i.e.) MBBS from an institution approved by the Medical Council of India or any other state medical council and it is also essential that should have completed their compulsory internship programme immediately after MBBS.
