IIT Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination 2012
The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur was established in May 1950 in West Bengal. IIT provides undergraduate, postgraduate and integrated postgraduate courses in various disciplines like management/business, technology, and engineering. At present, IIT Alumni occupy many leadership positions due to their business and technological brilliance. The other IIT’s are IIT-BHU, IIT-Indore, IIT-Jodhpur, IIT-Patna, IIT-Bhubaneswar, IIT-Hyderabad, IIT-Gandhinagar, IIT-Mandi, IIT-Ropar, IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Guwahati, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kanpur, IIT-Madras, IIT-Bombay, and IIT-Kharagpur.
Structure of IIT Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Exam
IIT Humanities and Social Sciences entrance exam consists of two parts. The first part includes objective type questions. The duration of Part I is 2 ½ hours. The questions in Part I are asked from the topics like Environment & Ecology, Indian Society, Indian Economy, Contemporary World Affairs, Analytical and Quantitative Ability, Comprehension Skills, and English. The second part comprises of essay type questions only. The candidates have to complete Part II within half an hour.

Eligibility Criteria
- The candidates who have passed any one of the following exams can apply for the IIT Humanities and Social Sciences entrance test.
- Two-year Pre-University or 12th exam from a recognized university or board
- Final exam of 12th from any recognized State/Central board like Council for Indian School Certificate Exam, Central Board of Secondary Education, etc
- H.S.C Vocational Exam
- High School Certificate Exam of the Cambridge University
- GCE Exam from Cambridge/London/Sri Lanka at the Advanced level
- Final Exam of the 2-year course of the Joint Services Wing of NDA
- Senior Secondary School Exam from National Open School with at least 5 subjects
- Any University/Public School/Board Exam equivalent to 12th in India or in any foreign country recognized by the Association of Indian Universities
The general category candidates who are applying for IIT entrance test are required to score at least 60% marks in the qualifying exam. The SC/ST candidates are required to score a minimum of 55% marks in the same.
How to Apply?
The candidates can download the application form from the official website of IIT. The students who are belonging to the general category and OBC have to remit an application fee of Rs.1600/-. The SC/ST or physically disabled candidates are required to pay Rs. 800/- only for entrance test. There is an exemption for the payment of fees in case of the female candidates. The applicants have to pay the fees in the form of challan at any branch of Indian Bank within the country. They can also pay through Account Payee DD drawn in any nationalized bank. The DD has to be taken in favor of Chairman, HSEE, IIT Madras, payable at Chennai. Also, the applicants should pay a processing fee of Rs.10/-.
How to fill the Form?
- Read the information brochure with great care
- Complete all the columns in the application form precisely
- Do not put any box vacant
- Only one application form has to be submitted
- Select the options in the application form with utmost care
- No need to send any acknowledgement card
- Paste the photograph in the printed application form along with the candidate’s signature
- Submit the copy of the paid bank Challan along with the form
- Provide the copies of the 10th and 12th mark sheets
