Andhra University is the first university to be perceived as teaching-cum-affiliating and residential university. It is largely dedicated to post-graduate research and teaching. It was formed in the year 1926 and since its formation it has a perfect record of catering to solving the sociological problems and education needs of the state of Andhra Pradesh.

It is persistent in absorbing a sense of responsibility among young men and women to become good citizens, encouraging community developmental programs and maintaining standards in research and teaching. It has four campuses and the college of Arts and Commerce is the biggest constituent college with more than 25 departments offering different courses. The university has skillful faculties popular for their research contributions.

The university is served by 115 assistant professors, 198 associate professors and 354 professors. Apart from this, the university has offered employment opportunity to more than 2500 support staff. The campus of the university has 10 hostels meant exclusively for women students and 23 hostels for men students and there are also two more hostels meant for students coming from foreign countries. Apart from this the university has also got a homeo dispensary and two residential health centers at its campus. It has also got faculty club, women waiting halls, publication and press division, etc…
