Women’s College, Silchar


Women’s College, Silchar came into existence in the year 1963 and the college is offering education to women students with affiliation from the Assam University, which is a central university located in Silchar. The University has been Accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and it is approved under section 12 (f) and 12 (b) of the University Grant Commission Act. It is a government college functioning under the control of Government of Assam.

Women’s College, Silchar offers the following courses:

Higher Secondary in Arts and Commerce Stream

Bachelor of Arts

Self-Financing courses:

In addition to the aforesaid regular courses, Women’s College also offers the following self-financing short-term courses:

Fashion Designing – 6 months course

Functional English – 3 Months course

Diploma in Computer Applications – 6 months course

Computer Basics & Internet – 4 months course

Tally – 6 months course

Basic Knowledge of Computer – 3 months course

Desk Top Publishing – 6 months course

Beautician course – 6 months course

Doll Making, Fabric Painting & Embroidery – 6 months course

For these courses, the college collects Rs.500 for three months courses and Rs.1000 for six months courses (other than DCA for which the course fee is Rs.1500). Course fee for four months course mentioned above is Rs.600. These courses are offered by the college not only for the students of the college, but even outside candidates can attend the course, however, the courses are meant only for women candidates.

College Library:

Women’s College, Silchar has a moderately furnished well-ventilated and computerized library. The important objective of the library is to fulfill the information requirements of the students and teachers in the form of study materials like audio-visual materials, newspapers, magazines, journals and books. Even the library has the collection of previous years question papers for the reference of its students in the form of CD. It has a collection of more than 15000 books and a spacious reading hall for students and teachers. For encouraging reading habits among students, the college offers ‘the best library users award’ for the students who make best use of the library.

Career Guidance Cell:

A career guidance cell is functioning in the Women’s College, Silchar for offering the best guidance to the students in choosing their career when they complete their course. The cell is functioning under the leadership of eminent teachers and it works with two placement officers, who offer required information to the students regarding future placements.
