Gemologist - How to become a Gemologist?
Gemology is the study of gemstones. It is concerned with the scientific study, the identification, physical properties and the natural occurrence of gems. Those who practice this are known as gemologists and their job is to identify, sort out and grade these stones. Candidates need to learn from faculty members who are highly trained in the study of gems and jewels. The aspirants need to be creative, have a good eye for detail, keen observation skills, awareness for fashion, and a basic awareness and understanding of gems and metals etc. Fresher’s should make sure that they start their career with an established jewelry designer so that they you can learn the basics. The most important thing the candidate requires is originality. As the quality of his work increases, his name and reputation will also rise. An experienced professional Gemologist can start a job on his/her own as a consultant or designer.
Qualifying Exam
Most colleges take up students based on the marks and interview. There is no specific entrance conducted for taking up candidates for bachelor degree or diploma course. Most of the colleges conduct their own entrance exams. Details about the entrance exam will be mentioned in the prospectus of the college or institute which the candidate is applying for.
Who is eligible to apply?
For admission into a Gemology course, the candidate must have their 10+2 or graduation from any discipline. It would be preferred for the candidates to have a good command in English the candidate is required to communicate with his customers in that language. Another reason being most of the books on the subject are in English.
How to prepare for exam and interview?
Students need to prepare for the exam based on the pattern of the test. Thereafter they will be required to attend an interview. They should give importance to practical skills along with theoretical knowledge.
