Maharashtra University of Health Sciences was established in the year 1998 on the 3rd of June and the university is located in the district of Nashik in Maharashtra. The university was established through an ordinance by the Maharashtra Government. The university started to function from the 10th of June 1998 and all the medical colleges and institutions offering education in the field of health sciences in the state of Maharashtra were brought under the jurisdiction of this university under section 6 (3) of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences Act 1999. The university was established with the objective of ensuring systematic and proper research, training, teaching and instruction in Indian system of medicine and modern system of medicine. Maharashtra University of Health Sciences offers medical degrees in different categories of medicines like Unani, homeopathy, ayurveda, dental medicine, etc…The university is not only offers courses in the faculty of medicine, but also offers courses in its allied fields like prosthetics, audiology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and nursing. Apart from the main campus and affiliated colleges, the university has regional centers at Kolhapur, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Pune and Mumbai. Initially, the university functioned from a rented building and later it was shifted to its own building in the year 2005. Within three years from the establishment of this university, a committee was formed by the Maharashtra Government to review the university’s progress and some measures were recommended by the committee to alter its responsibilities and functions.
