About the examination:
Data Communication and Computer Networking is one of the six papers which one has to appear for in the second semester of the course. It is coded CST-202.
About the paper:
Data Communication and Computer Networking paper deals with the basic theoretical aspect of Computer networking. The topics range from the 7 layer model to the OSI model to concepts of LAN and more elaborate topics like data transmission and fiber optics.
Syllabus:
The syllabus for this paper is divided into three modules with the modules being basics of Data communications and networking, Data Link layer, Network Transport (TCP/IP) and the various application layers.
The important topics covered are Data transmission concepts ,bandwidth, fiber optics, Signaling modem, CSMA/CD, OSI reference model, Start and mesh topology, Transport mechanism, TCP/UDP,
RCP (remote procedure call) and its applications. Concepts of FDDI, ISDN, need of IP addressing, LAN and token bus etc.
Pattern of the paper:
The paper is divided into two sections A and B. Section A is the compulsory section and one needs to attempt all the 12 questions that are in it. There are ten multiple choice questions with each carrying 1 marks. The rest of the questions in section A are small subjective answers to be answered to the point.
In section B one has to answer any three out of the four questions that is present. The questions are long subjective questions and had been divided into sub parts which make it easier for one to answer.
Full marks of the question and the time allotted:
The total marks allotted for the paper is 75 and an examinee is given a maximum time of three hours to answer all the questions.
