Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences came into existence in the year 2007 and the college is approved by the Dental Council of India with an intake capacity of 50 students per year for the Dental science course offered. The college was offering dental education with affiliation from the Mahatma Gandhi University located in Kottayam and after the year 2010, the college came under the Kerala University of Health & Allied Sciences.

Location of the college:

Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences is managed by the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust and it is located in a place called Indira Nagar at a distance of three kilometers from the Kothamangalam Municipality. The college has Nellikuzhi town to its west and it is on the Kothamangalam-Perumbavoor route.

Course Details:

Currently, Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences is offering the only course Bachelor of Dental Surgery with an approved intake capacity of 50 students per year according to the guidelines of the Dental Council of India, Government of Kerala and the affiliating university.

Admissions:

Admission of students to the BDS course offered by the Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Science is done under three different categories namely government quota, management quota and NRI Quota. The admission criteria followed by the institute under each of these quotas is given below:

Admissions under government quota:

Under this category, 50% of seats are reserved and for getting admission under this category, candidates must take up the Common Entrance Test conducted by the Kerala Government and all admissions are done with approval of the DCI and KUHAS.

Management Quota:

Out of the remaining 50% of seats other than government quota seats, 35% of the seats are filled through management quota. Under this category, selection of candidates will be based on the Common Entrance Test conducted by the Management consortium.
