Government Nehru P.G. College began its journey as a private institution in the year 1965 and it was converted as a government college in the year 1980. When the college began its educational journey in the year 1965, it was acting as a college for offering arts courses alone. Later in the year, 1969 and 1970 commerce and science departments were added.

The college began to offer PG Courses from the year 1983 and the college holds the pride of holding the second position among the different colleges functioning in the Shahdol District of the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Admission Procedure:

As far as Admission of students to the UG courses are concerned, it is done based on the merit secured by the students in the higher secondary examination conducted by the Madhya Pradesh State Higher Education Board or from any other recognized board or university. As far as Admission of students to the UG courses are concerned, it is done based on past merit and on the basis of test conducted by A.P. Singh University.

Intake capacity of the college:

Government Nehru P.G. College is approved with an intake capacity of 600 students to the B.A course, 350 students for the B. Com course and 300 students for the B. Sc course. On the other hand, the intake capacity of the college for each of the PG courses is 50 students, while for the Master of Arts in Geography course alone, its intake capacity is 25 students.
