B.I.T. began its journey as a college for mechanical and electrical engineering in the year 1949 at the city of Patna. Later in the year 1950, it was shifted to its current campus at Sindri thereby giving birth to B.I.T. Sindri. The institute is functioning under the administrative control of the Government of Jharkhand’s Department of Science and Technology and it is educationally affiliated to the Vinoba Bhave University located at Hazaribag.

All the courses offered by the institute are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education and the UG courses offered by the institute are approved by the National Board of Accreditation located at New Delhi.

Admissions:

B. Tech: Admission of students to the B. Tech courses are done through merit secured by candidates in Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination conducted by the JCECE Board established by the Government of Jharkhand. Even lateral entry admissions are offered by the institute to diploma holders and for the lateral admissions, separate entrance examination is conducted.

M. Tech: Admissions of students to M. Tech courses are done based on entrance test conducted by the institute followed by interview. Candidates with valid GATE Score and B. Tech/B.E in appropriate branch of engineering securing at least 60% of marks (55% for reserved category candidates) or its equivalent CGPA are eligible to apply.

Admissions to Research Programmes:

Apart from the aforesaid UG and PG courses, the institute also offers research program in different disciplines of engineering for which candidates must have completed their M.E/M. Tech in appropriate discipline securing at least 60% of marks (55% for reserved category candidates).

Training and placement cell at B.I.T. Sindri:

The Training & Placement Cell at the B.I.T is responsible for arrangement of vocational training for the third year students of the institute in different industries during their vacation and the cell is also responsible for inviting companies for offering placement facilities to its students through campus interviews. Each year a number of big corporate firms visit B.I.T. for recruitment of appropriate candidates.
