BJ Medical College, Pune
The BJ Medical College stands for Byramjee Jejabhoy Medical College. The college was initially BJ Medical School when it was started in the year 1878, now it is totally a college after 1946. The college was among the top ten medical colleges in India in the year 2009. The college is administered by the Government of Maharashtra.
Campus
The Infrastructure of the college is great. The main building of the college has almost everything that is needed in order to conduct a peaceful study. There are libraries which cater to the books and other journal and magazines needed by the students. There are more than 10000 volumes of books in the library. There are also rooms where the students can relax and play. There is a cafeteria and table tennis room and carom room where the students enjoy and play. Also there is a gymnasium in the college.
Courses Offered
The college offers two courses to its students. It offers Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery known as MBBS. The duration of the MBBS course is five and a half years which includes internship. The other course that the institute offers is the Doctor of Medicine known as the M.D.
Admission Procedure
The admission to the college in the MBBS course is on the basis of merit obtained in the MHT – CET Entrance Examination. There are reservation according to the norms and the rules of the Indian Government. For the M.D course one has to have a MBBS degree and a year of rotating internship.
Placements
The students are placed at various medical centers while some of them become medical practitioner.
