Fakir Chand College came into existence in the year 1948 when the University of Calcutta planned for decentralization of higher education. Initially, the college began its journey as an intermediate college and it earned the status of UG college in the faculties of science and commerce in the year 1958.

Eligibility requirement:
For seeking admission to the honors degree courses offered by the Fakir Chand College, candidates should have cleared their higher secondary with not less than 50% of aggregate marks with not less than 45% of marks in the appropriate subject. If the candidate has not studied the particular subject in which he/she is seeking honors admission, they must have obtained 50% of aggregate marks in the other subjects at the qualifying examination. The minimum eligible mark in both cases is 40% in the case of candidates belonging to reserved category.
Admission Procedure:
According to the norms laid by the affiliating university, admission of students to the different courses offered by the Fakir Chand College is strictly made on the basis of the merit secured by the students in the qualifying examination. Students who have completed their qualifying examination only during the current year and the immediate previous year can apply to the college.
