i am btech 1st year student nd my branch is electronics instrumentation nd cntrl.hw should i start my GATE preparation....?

what a 2nd year student have to do to select in gate

i am BE 4th year civil my date of birth is 19 05 1992 am i eligible for engineering service exam 2013?
if that is not possible for 2014 ESE how should i start preparation?
