Yes, those who pass out from AMIE are treated at par with BE. Even Government and UPSC accept them as equivalent to BE.

However, this is pursued mostly by working persons, who already have some engg background and who have some persons to guide them, because it is very difficult to learn and grasp the basic concepts on one's own.

For you, better option would be to go through a regular BE course.
