Re: Which is better : Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering?
dear friend,
engineering itself is a highly pronounced technical field which is divided into various other fields; all unique in its class. two such fields are computer science engineering and the mechanical engineering. when it comes to the software world, computer science engineering rules and when it comes to the core world, its the mechanical engineering.both of these fields are entirely different ones. if you are interested in the computer applied field, go for computer science and if working with engines and modelling suits you the best, then go ahead with the mechanical there is no gender restriction for admission to either of these fields. and coming to employment opportunities, both have bright scope, provided you score well and come out with no history of arrears. so introspect yourself. decide what suits you the best an go ahead. be confident with your decision. you would rock. all the very best. god bless you. |

hello friend
according to me MECHANICAL ENGINEERING is best even though you may not get the salaries as the IT prfessionals get but keeping aside money if we think about the interest on the subject and the practical way of learning if we can expect the future mechanical branch then definitely one who is intelligent enough to decide will fix for the mechanical branch so it all depends on your interest also all the best ~aditya~ |

But if you choose Computer Science then your spectrum to excel in others fields narrows down. But if you choose Mechanical Engineering then you would have a broad spectrum of opportunities. That too Mechanical Engineering is an ever green field and there no lack of jobs at all. I would personally suggest you to choose Mechanical Engineering. This field is really exuberant and you can enjoy the subjects which are related to real world applications. All the Best! |

Re: Which is better : Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering?
it depends on what are you comfortable in.If you you want to do a hard work life - time then obviously mechanical is better than computer science because for Mechanical you have a 100% job assurance but in the field of computer science it totally depend on your college and normally it is about 60-65 % placement warranty but you will enjoy computer science better.
So you are getting a good college then go for computer science otherwise Mechanical. |

Re: Which is better : Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering?
Hi friend,
Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering, You can choose your own which is the best with the following suggestions. Computer Science will give you more money but it won't be stable as Mechanical Engineering. While you are doing computer science you will have to compete with MCA, M.sc computer science and Mechanical Engineers will have competition among them selves only. So you can do whatever you are interested in. |

currently market is getting down for software engineers,, but i think once you get into job u'll find it good,, it has lot of scope later,, can go anywhere,, money is really good,, everthing is good dude its just that get into job,, in mechanical engineering u'll find the job easily but they will not pay you heavy as computers will,, opurtunities will b less to get exposure in the market........... REST IS UPTO YOUR INTREST IF YOU LIKE DRAWING AND YOUR IMAGINATON IS GOOD GO FOR M,ECHANICAL AND IF YOU HAV INTERST IN COMPUTERS THEN GO THERE DIFF. I HAV TOLD U |

We can not say any of the stream better than one another it's totally depends on your interest. Both field are different from one another like
in computer science - there is the study of languages like c,c++,java so that you can make your career in software field. in mechanical there is the study of machines. |

Re: Which is better : Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering?
In my opinion, Computer Science is better if you find it easier working in an air-conditioned office and are good with numbers. On the other hand Mechanical Engineering provides passage/entry to almost all fields. In Mechanical, you have streams like - Production, Design & Analysis, Metallurgy, Mechatronics etc.
In Mechanical Engineering, you will have to deal with Advanced Calculus more than in Computer Science. Mathematics is often associated wrongly with Computer Science. The level of mathematics in Computer Science is much lower unless you choose to specialize in Mathematics later. Make sure, if your interest lies in :- Machines then choose B.E/B.Tech in Mechatronics, this provides opportunities in Robotics and Automobile. Metals (Inorganic Chemistry, Particle Physics, Nuclear Physics), you can go for B.E/B.Tech in Metallurgy, this will land you in Iron & Steel mostly as in India. Though you can later on become a Material Scientist as well if your interest level excites you to do research. If you haven't reasoned your interest till now, then I'll advice you to choose B.E/B.Tech Mechanical Engineering. For specialization (i.e. M.Tech/M.E/M.S), you can later decide on the above mentioned fields. If your interest is also solely in Physics, then also choose Mechanical Engineering because Mechanical Engineers are widely accepted in Physics fields. |

Re: Which is better : Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering?
hi ,
to get a government job after doing computer science and engineering As you are a Computer science Engineering graduate, there are opportunities for you in some public sectors like SAIL,NTPC,BEL etc..... BEL is recruiting 40 computer science engineering graduates at the moment,so you can have a try at it. Inorder to get through the govt. sector exams you need to prepare really very well, you must be through in your subjects, because nowadays there is fierce competition for the public sector jobs.Apart from the subjects you also need to prepare for aptitude and general awareness sections because the cut off is taken from all the sections. BSNL JTO, management trainee in SAIL and other PSUs BANK technical officer, rrb, forensic. |

hi dear,
well both mechanical and computer science are good and have their own scope. Its very tough to say which one is more better. If you are interested in programming of computer language then you should go for computer science.Because students who have good programming part can easily get job in future. But if you not interested in computer programming and their language then go for mechanical engineering. It will also good for your future. Good Luck |

Re: Which is better : Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering?
In terms of general world, mechanical engineering is better than computer science because mechanical engineering is a core engineering stream.
Being a sore engineering stream, mechanical engineering has vast areas of application and plenty of job opportunities. Mechanical engineering is a very broad arena with plenty of applications and plenty of options to perform specialisation. Hence no one can get stuck while pursuing a career in mechanical engineering. On the other hand computer science and engineering is a very restricted field with application only in the software sector and it is not a core engineering stream. No good job will be available for computer engineers right after BTech, you have to do MTech for a good job. On the other hand plenty of job opportunities are there in mechanical engineering right after BTech. Hence you should go for mechanical engineering best of luck!!! |

Re: Which is better : Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering?
I am working in an IT company. I have done my B-Tech in CS. But a lot of Mechanical Engineers are working in IT because they did not get any job in Mechanical field even if having good academic background. Even my room mate is a mechanical engineer. The thing is that, IT has a lot of opportunities. If you are expertise in IT (In any field) you will get more satisfaction and salary. Nobody can tell that one branch is good and other is bad. All depends on your interest and performance. This is 101 % true. Thanks.

Re: Which is better : Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering?
Sadly, as a software engineer with a couple of decades in the industry I would strongly advise the mechanical engineering path.
The harsh reality is that software skills have not only become a commodity profession (people who can write code are a dime a dozen), it is a commodity that is being purchased from cheap overseas sources. Frankly, I do not see the profession as offering much in the way of growth opportunities in the future. Mechanical engineers, OTOH, will continue to be in demand for as long as physical items are designed and built in and around your local. You can hire cheap labor to write the software that makes a product run. You can even hire cheap manufacturing to put together the chassis it goes in. However, you will always need a mechanical engineer to design that chassis. |

Re: Which is better : Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering?
Check the job opportunities my friends. IT sector hires most compared to other Engg streams. Salary too you cannot match an IT professional with other Engineering streams. By doing B.Tech CS, you can go to development(Software), Testing, Networking, R&D, etc. You cannot find a company without having IT support. Computer Science let talented people start a starup and has huge scope of success like what we see in Facebook, twitter etc. Friends it is talent that matters. Low quality people cannot survive in IT industry or have to be satisfied with less salary. The same goes with Mech too. Talent matters and choose the stream according to your taste and talent. Best of luck.

Re: Which is better : Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering?
In today's world there is no house with computer all have been computerised and comparing with mech cse doesn't needs too much of hard work. Syllabus were also less In cse .salary package is also greater than mech . job opportunities were also greater in IT field than core companies so my own personal support will be for cse. Mechanical has more scope but many were job less or working for minimum salary package.whatever field you take interest and hard work will result in 100% success.
All the best. |

But if you want greater salaries and.promotions quickly then go for IT/CSE rather than mechanical. There are companies like Google, Facebook, Yahoo , Amazon, Microsoft etc etc purely named as IT companies offering salaries over 10-15 lacs and even in crores if you are from super reputed college. Also life style is much better if you prefer cse. And for kind information of everyone posting wrong info here- IT has atleast 4 times more jobs for freshers as compared to Mech. Think twice, consider your interest and work accordingly. All the best. |
