Re: Books recommended for IIT JAM exam? How to prepare for the exam?
I would suggest the following books for IIT JEE preparation.
1. Physics: Text Books: For solving problems and understanding basics ุ Concept of Physics Volume 1 & Volume 2, By H C Verma ุ Problems in General Physics, By I.E. Irodov (For selected problems) Reference Books: For understanding doubts ุ Fundamentals of Physics, By Halliday, Resnick & Walker ุ The Feynman Lectures on Physics Volume 1 & Volume 2, By R.P. Feynman (Very nice book, all the fundamentals are well emphasized.) 2. Chemistry 2.1 Physical Chemistry: Text Books: For solving problems and understanding basics ุ Numerical Chemistry, By R.C. Mukhrjee (One must solve all the numerical problems of R.C. Mukhrjee, It's worked out examples are very good.) ุ Physical Chemistry, By P. Bahadur (For reading theory) Reference Books: For understanding doubts ุ Physical Chemistry, By P.W. Atkins ุ University Chemistry, By Bruce H. Mahan ุ General Chemistry, By Ebbing 2.2 Organic Chemistry: Text Books: For solving problems and understanding basics ุ Organic Chemistry, By Arihant Prakashan (One has to be careful as it contains several errors. But very nice book, all the topics are given in a nice sequence.) Reference Books: For understanding doubts ุ Organic Chemistry, By Solomons (I would strongly recommend this book. All the fundamentals of reaction mechanisms are well emphasized. You don't need any tutor if you have this book.) ุ Organic Chemistry, By Morrison & Boyd ุ Organic Chemistry Volume 1, By I. L. Finar 2.3 Inorganic Chemistry: Text Books: For solving problems and understanding basics ุ NCERT, Chemistry XI & XII ุ Inorganic Chemistry, By Arihant Prakashan Reference Books: For understanding doubts ุ Concise Inorganic Chemistry, By J.D. Lee Mathematics: Text Books: For solving problems and understanding basics ุ Higher Algebra, By Hall & Knight (Complex Number, Series & Sequence of this book is very nice.) ุ Problems in Calculus of One Variable, By I.A. Maron (Very nice book, one must solve function, Limit & Continuity, Differential, Integral & Definite Integral of this book.) ุ Co-ordinate Geometry, By S. L. Loney (Its conic section is very nice. Sometimes even the problem in the Mains is directly from this book. This happened with me.) ุ Plane Trigonometry Part I, By S. L. Loney ุ Vectors & 3-D Geometry, By Arihant Prakashan ุ Mathematics, By Tata Macgraw Hill (TMH) Reference Books: For understanding doubts ุ Calculus, By J. Edward ุ Vector, By Shanti Narayan The above list of books is more than enough to clear IIT JEE, if one solves problems honestly. Those who are interested in looking more books can go through the list which is given below. For more information contact me at my email id [email protected]. Re: Books recommended for IIT JAM exam? How to prepare for the exam?
hi,
you didnot say for which subject you are preparing to write for IIT-JAM as IIT JAM is a Joint Admission Test for the M.Sc. The Test is conducted by Indian Institute of technology every year. It has papers for different subjects like Mathematics, Geology, Geophysics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematical Statistics and Computer Application. anyway i am providing some information regarding this: The eligibility criterion is B.Sc. Biotechnology for the students who want to apply for the M.Sc. Biotechnology course. The time duration to complete the paper is 3hours. The Biotechnology question paper has only objective type questions in that and it has no descriptive or subjective type questions in that while other subjects have both the types of questions in that. The questions are based on all the subjects like biology, physics, mathematics and chemistry. 44 percentage weightage is give to biology, 18 percent weightage to physics, 18 percent weightage to mathematics and 20 percent weightage to chemistry. Biology questions are based on the syllabus of biology subject from 10+2+3 level. Chemistry syllabus is also based on 10+2+3 level. Mathematics and Physics syllabus is based on only 10+2 level. It has negative marking also so the marks will be getting deducted for every negative answer for the answer of objective type question. Students need to answer on the separate answer sheet for objective type question. They need to fill the circles by darkening them fully to choose the right answer. geophysics pattern: The IIT JAM Geophysics Paper is a three hour paper. It has a total of 300 marks. The total number of questions in the paper is 44 inclusive of both subjective and objective type questions. The objective type questions are the first 30 questions in the paper. Each question has four alternatives. But there is only one correct answer. The answers are to be darkened on a separate answer sheet. There is negative marking on the paper for each wrong answer. In case of an incorrect answer the student loses one mark from the correct one. Negative marking has been introduced only recently so as to discourage the students from guessing. There is space provided to answer to the subjective questions. Each question carries 15 marks. They may or may not have internal choices. A single question may also be split up into two parts carrying different amount of marks. The marks are mentioned alongside each question. The main portion for the exam includes topics from geology, mathematics, physics section. All the questions are from the portion itself. You need to refer to previous years papers to get a better idea of the most likely questions to be asked in the exam. |

Quote:
Physics: NCERT Physics HC Verma Arihant by DC Pandey Chemistry: NCERT Physical - P Bahadur Organic -Arihant Inorganic - P.Bahadur/OP Tandon Mathematics: ML Khanna or RD Sharma Arihant Series in Maths if time permits TMH Mathematics The full solution of H.C. Verma is available at kaysonseducation.co.in We strongly recommend you complement your study from books with DVDs. Whereas books are static, with DVDs you can have a dynamic study experience with 3D images to explain concepts leaving you enough time to solve problems and also increase your concentration by 300%!
