Re: Can a commerce background student join BCA course?
It is a common mistake among 10+2 students that only Science stream students can apply for Bachelors in Computer Applications (BCA) course. However this is competely incorrect. Commerce stream students like yourself can also apply for BCA.
The only eligibility for BCA course which deals with software, hardware and networking field is 10+2 with Mathematics as one of the subject. This makes commerce stream students also eligible for the BCA course. However some colleges may have different sets of criteria. For example, some colleges want you to score at least 45 percent marks in 10+2 to be eligible for Bachelors in Computer Applications. However this rule is not applied in all colleges. What you will have to do is appear in a entrance exam of the college for admission in BCA course. The BCA entrace exam mainly focuses on your Mathematics ability, command over English language, Logical reasoning. Most questions related to Mathematics and General English in the entrance exam are taken from the class 12th. Top BCA colleges in India are: JK Business School (JKBS) IndraPrastha College of Management and Technology (ICMT) NIT Bhopal NIT Raipur VIT University Vellore NIT Warangal Cochin Univ of Science & Tech University of Pune NIT Kurukshetra I should warn you that scope after BCA alone is not good in India these days. In fact most bachelors courses suffer from same problem except B.Tech. For a secure future I would recommend you to study further after BCA. Taking the MCA course after completing BCA would be the ideal choice. |

BCA - BACHELOR OF COMPUTER APPLICATION is a three years under Graduate course dealing in software, hardware and networking.

Re: Can a commerce background student join BCA course?
Yes sure you are eligible to take admission in the BCA course. If you are thinking to get admission in the government college then the admission will be through your 12th class percentage or cut of marks list. If you are planning to get admission in the private college then sure you will get admission. The marks in your 12th class should be more than 60%. You should remember that BCA is also a technical degree and if you have the interest in technology only then you can make a good career in this field.

Re: Can a commerce background student join BCA course?
Its true that you can apply for the BCA course but in most of the institutes where BCA through regular mode is offered, institutes prefer students who have studied Maths in +2 level, but this may differ as per the institute requirement.
Other way to pursue BCA without the Maths constraint is to go for Distance/ Correspondence BCA course. There are many BCA colleges in the country and to know about the same, you may refer to the following link: tinyurl.com/chkgcb2 You may refine the link as per your requirements. |

It is possible for you to do BCA(Bachelor in Computer Applications). It is a wide mistake done by students that they think that BCA could only be done by the science students. It has, infact ,many subjects of commerce right from the beginning. Its great if you opt for BCA but you do some side course with it.You can do GNIIT from NIIT(private institute) which provides a two year course and also provides placement opportunities. It is best if you choose BCA because if you are interested to get into an IT company you would get a great help if you do these courses simultaneously. Further,if you don't want to go for NIIT,you can do MCA(Masters in Computer Applications) after the completion of BCA.It will also provide you great placement opportunities. All the Best |

Re: Can a commerce background student join BCA course?
Yes. A candidate who is having commerce background is eligible to join BCA course. But all the institutes will not accept these candidates.
For many of the institutes or colleges, the common eligibility criteria to give admission for BCA course will be Candidate should have completed 10+2. The percentage of marks in 10+2 will be minimum of 50%. The candidate should have Mathematics as one of the subject in 10+2. As you are from commerce background, you might not be having Mathematics in your 10+2. That won't be a big problem at all. Do any computer certification course. Some colleges will consider this to give admission for BCA course. Some other colleges will conduct entrance exam to give admission for this course. Collect the list of top colleges offering this course in and around your location. Enquire the eligibility criteria and try to satisfy the same. Soon after the completion of BCA course, try to join MCA course. Then you will be good number of job opportunities in various top IT companies like IBM Wipro Infosys Oracle Dell Delloite Google etc. Try to get good subject knowledge and communication skills so that you will easily get job. Wish you all the best. |

Re: Can a commerce background student join BCA course?
Many of the candidates are having this confusion.
They complete their 12th class in Commerce stream and they want to switch to IT domain by opting for BCA course. But the thing is they are not sure that they are eligible to join this course or not. Some people they give the judgement themselves that they are not eligible and simply opt for another course without having interest. The consequences due to this are very high at a later stage for the candidates. It is good that you raised your query to avoid confusion and the solutions is, Yes. The candidates who have completed 12th class in Commerce stream are eligible to opt for BCA course. It would be an added advantage for the candidates if they have Mathematics subject in 12th class. However, you don't need to worry much about this. In the initial days, it may become difficult for you to understand the subject. But put your best efforts and you will be habituated in couple of months. If you neglect at this stage, it will be a problem for your career itself. Wish you all the best. |
